Inhabit and build. Peris+Toral Arquitectes
The Tarragona Region of the College of Architects of Catalonia offers a conference, where we will have the opportunity to listen to the architect José Toral from PERIS+TORAL ARQUITECTES, which will explain the approach taken by the study in its projects, addressing the climate and housing emergency from a comprehensive sustainability perspective. They highlight the interrelationship of environmental, economic and social aspects to develop efficient architectural solutions. Key strategies include “increasing intermediate spaces” with buildings equipped with courtyards and bioclimatic atriums, “reducing” materials and resources following the rule of the three Rs, and “sharing” spaces to foster social interaction and the collaborative economy . These principles are reflected in his most recent projects, looking for viable, bearable, and equitable architecture.
The study of architecture PERIS+TORAL ARQUITECTES, based in Barcelona and founded by Marta Peris and José Toral, is dedicated to researching new ways of living associated with innovative construction methods.
José Toral teaches at the ETSAB UPC in Barcelona, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, as an associate professor. Together with Marta Peris, they have taught at POLIMI in Milan and are currently guest professors at EPFL in Lausanne.
Their work has been recognized with the RIBA INTERNATIONAL 2024 Award, the DETAIL 2024 award, the CSCAE 2022 Spanish Architecture Award, and they were finalists for the EU MIES AWARD 2022. Their works have been exhibited in the "Cité de l'Architecture" in Paris 2022, Seoul 2021, in the Spanish Pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2016, and in the UIA Tokyo 2011, among others.
